Let me be completely honest with you: the hardest part of our transition from the U.S. to Spain has been language barriers. While our family spent lots of time in Spanish-speaking nations up and down Central and South America, we weren’t as “bueno” speaking Spanish as we had thought.
Because our daily interactions with others in Madrid are primarily Spanish (unlike other more tourist-filled areas like Málaga), it is necessary that all of us learn Spanish. Our oldest son, Landon, at age 12 and in 5th grade last year, mastered speaking, reading and listening to Spanish quickly from his primary American school here. Both he and our youngest son have tons of local friends, and their ages are great to learn a new language. For Logan and I on the other hand, we find it difficult to learn a new language as adults. While we want to learn and we try all we can, we knew we needed official Spanish classes in Madrid to especially build our confidence in speaking Spanish.

We were so thrilled to find Expanish Madrid and to participate in their Evening Group Course on Tuesday and Thursday nights for a month. We learned so much, loved the environment being with other speakers and definitely felt that it was a great way to learn.
We will be partnering with Expanish Madrid for the months of September through December through both Group + Private Lessons, building our confidence to communicate effectively here in Madrid.
If you’re considering a move to Spain from the U.S., I highly encourage learning Spanish now in advance. Expanish offers Private Lessons which can be conducted online. They also offer Group Courses, in both quantities of 20 and 30, so if you’re already in Madrid, consider using this promo code: GOANDDOGOOD10 which will take 10% off the G20 & G30 courses in Madrid. This promo code also works for online private lessons, so begin learning now before you move to or visit Spain!
I’ll be continuing to document our language learning journey with Expanish. Happy Spanish learning!
